First Week Of School
Keenoy’s Blue Dragons Newsletter 8-26-22
Dear Families,
I have truly enjoyed getting to know each
student in the classroom. They are a
very kind group of kiddos and we have had a lot of fun getting to know each
other. Many of the activities, during
our first week of school, focused on building a strong classroom
community. One of the activities
involved voting for a class name. They
voted for our class to be the Blue Dragons.
This class name was based off the student drawing design from above. Great Choice!
Gradually we will start including more curriculum work into the
day. Learning routines and creating a
safe/kind classroom environment is essential for a successful year. We are off to an amazing start!
Homework
The nightly
homework expectation is for students to read for at least 30 minutes each evening
(Mon.-Thurs.). This schedule will start
on Monday, August 29th. Students can
also expect purposeful math homework each week.
This work could include studying their basic facts for fluency. Students will keep homework documented in
their planner as well as important due dates and events. These planners need to go home each evening
and be returned to school every day. Thank you to Paxton purchasing an agenda
for every 5th grader!
Friday
Folders/Newsletters
Each week your
child will bring home a Friday Folder. You will receive a different piece of
information each week that will keep you informed about the school and/or your
child. I sent home a Family
Communication Schedule at “Meet the Teacher.”
Dates were provided on that schedule, and I will try my best to stick
with those dates.
Week 1 …
Newsletter from Mrs. Patton with helpful building information and school
calendar updates.
Week 2… Success
Ready Skills Checklist. This will give
you information about your child in the classroom.
Week 3…. Teacher newsletter with information on
classroom curriculum and events.
Week 4…Success
Ready Skills Checklist
It is helpful for
folders to be returned each Monday. While it is your child’s responsibility to
give you the folder each week, please remind him/her at the beginning of the
year.
iPads
Each fifth grader has
been issued an iPad. This is an educational tool that will be used primarily at
school. The iPad will stay at school unless I give them a specific purpose for
bringing it home. I will email families
on days those students can bring them home.
If you see a school iPad (from our classroom) at home without an email,
that will indicate that they brought it home without my permission.
Afternoon
Dismissal Changes
It is very
important that I am aware of a routine dismissal change for your child. Families have already been wonderful about
this communication during the first week.
The best way to communicate this change is to email dkeenoy@cpsk12.org
or call the office 573-214-3570.
The office will then call up to my room and communicate this change to
me. If emailing, please send the email
in the morning by 9:00 a.m. so that I have time to check my inbox. If I see the email, I will reply indicating I
am aware of the change in plan. My own
children are extremely involved in activities, so I totally understand that
last minute changes happen. In this
case, please call the office rather than emailing. This will assure that both
your child and I receive the message.
Thank you!
Getting to Know
Your Child (Sent Home With Students in Friday Folder)
Please take a
moment to answer the questions on the Introducing Your Child pages and provide
any additional information that you feel will help me be a better teacher to
your child. This form can be sent back
anytime during the next week of school.
If I could get all forms back by next Friday, I would greatly appreciate
that. Please do not hesitate to contact
me with ANY questions or concerns that you have.
dkeenoy@cpsk12.org
Thank you for
supporting your child and my teaching.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Dan Keenoy
